Introducing the Palm Pre – The newest smart phone to hit the market in 2009
In the past we have mobile phones that is only capable of sending messages or making calls. Today, tech consumers are demanding a lot more features from the mobile phones that they use. This has caused mobile phones to evolve, turning them into smart phones that have a lot of features and is faster and more powerful when compared to its predecessors. Palm Inc. which is one of the major manufacturers of smart phones and PDAs always comes into mind when we talk about mobile phones of today.
Jeff Hawkins founded the Palm way back in 1992 in Sunnyvale, California. Known then as Palm Computing Inc. their very first product that was released in the market is the Zoomer, which is a personal digital assistant for consumers or PDA. As time went by, various models has been manufactured and the company was acquired by larger manufacturers. Palm Inc.’s reputation today is based on the company’s ability to come up with the coolest and smartest gadgets that is suitable for everyone’s mobile needs. Today, Palm’s newest brainchild, the Palm Pre, was guaranteed to be one of the products that can compete against the iPhone.
Some of the Palm Pre’s specs are as follows: The 3.1 inch touch screen slides to reveal a full QWERTY keypad, giving it that sophisticated slider form. Weighing only just 4.6 ounces, it’s one of the thinnest PDAS, measuring about half and inch thick more or less. Even though it’s thin, it offers a lot of connectivity options, which includes USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and CDMA. The operating of this smart phone is the Linux based Palmweb OS. It also has a 3 mega pixel digital camera along with LED flash, and its 8 GB hard drive allows you to store tons of photos and videos.
Organizing your schedules becomes convenient and simpler because of the Palm Synergy program. This gives you the ability to merge together your PDA calendars, Google and even Facebook. Techies will have a swell time using this PDA since it will allow them to open several applications or windows at the same time and navigate between them with ease. Need to find some information from Google, Wikipedia, your hard drive and even your phone book? The universal search option that’s installed in the unit will make this easier and faster. GPS and a multimedia player that’s capable of playing several formats of audio and video is also one of the features present in this unit.
The exclusive rights to distribute this newest and innovative smart phone has been awarded to Sprint Nextel in the United States. Tech fanatics will be able to get hold of the Palm Pre by June of 2009. During the recent Consumer Electronics Show last January 2009 that was held in Las Vegas, the Palm Pre raked in several awards. This just proves that American mobile phone fans won’t be disappointed once it has been made available to the public.
In the UK and for the rest of Europe, information has it that Vodafone has started its negotiations with Palm to be the exclusive distributor of the smart phone in the region. Fortunately, Softpedia reported that Vodafone might actually win the negotiations and will be the sole network in the UK that distributes the Palm Pre for the first three months from its initial release.
